Clean Corner: How to Make a Journal DIY with Writing Prompts

We’ve talked about the benefits of journaling during recovery and so we wanted share with you a journal DIY and some writing prompts to get you started. You write your most prized, intimate memories and thoughts inside – so why not personalize it? These simple notebooks are a breeze to put together and make great little gifts for you or anyone you love.


  • 8.5 x 11 white paper (about 7-8 pages per journal)
  • Printed cardstock for the cover (cut to 8.5 x 11)
  • Needle
  • Embroidery thread
  • Scissors


Journal DIYInstructions:

Step One:

Fold both the cover page and white paper in half. Place the white paper inside of the cover.

Step Two:

Use your needle to poke holes through the spine of the book, about one inch apart.

Step Three:

Thread your embroidery string through the holes one way and then back the other way to reinforce the binding. Tie a knot at the end to secure it.
