After many months of planning, Recoveryas.com joined hundreds of addiction advocates and marchers as a diamond sponsor at the Fed Up! Rally on Saturday, October 3rd, 2015 in Washington, DC. Held in the Sylvan Theatre, at the National Mall, the rally was in support of putting an end to our nation’s epidemic of heroin addiction and overdose deaths and to create an overall awareness of opioid addiction.
Scream For Recovery Spreads Awareness on Substance Abuse
Substance abuse and addiction have long been a stigmatized topic and is often dismissed as being purely a criminal or mental health issue. This places addiction under an incredibly negative light and it deprives people from getting the help they need. It is for this reason that we decided to introduce #ScreamForRecovery, a viral effort to create change and awareness for addiction, at our Scream For Recovery booth for the Fed Up! Rally in DC.
Scream For Recovery Brought Addiction Advocates and Marchers Together
As a part of our Scream For Recovery campaign, we set up a photo/video booth and encouraged passersby to participate by screaming for those we have lost as well as those who are still battling with addiction. It was incredibly heartwarming to see so many people come together for such a great cause and work together to help those who need it work toward removing the illness of addiction from their lives.
There were many great speakers at the rally and among them were two alumni from The Discovery House, Zach Brader and Joey Parks. Both spoke about their lives and their addiction with opiates and prescription painkillers.
